About

I have been teaching for 20 years and I work wonderfully well with students age 5 and up. My teaching style relies on discipline, patience and a good dose of humor. I strongly believe that bringing a sense of fun to the lessons enhances the learning experience!

Although my emphasis is on classical music, I enjoy and promote the performance of all sorts of genres, from jazz to blues and from musicals to movie soundtracks.

I am fluent both in Spanish and English

Osvaldo is an amazing piano teacher for my 8-year-old son. He makes challenging lessons fun and engaging. During COVID, lessons were virtual and I was surprised how my son was able to make great progress. Osvaldo is extremely patient with children and parents.

I approached Osvaldo in the middle of the pandemic, when my daughters interest in piano was starting to fade. I am very grateful that he agreed to take on both those challenges. In the last one year, not only has he created fun and engaging classes online for my 9yr old, he has also rekindled her liking and interest in piano. I can see that my daughter is eager to meet him every week (via zoom and now face to face), he encourages her and also creates a very safe space for her to make mistakes and learn from them. Overall, he creates a very positive learning environment and I think thats exactly what my daughter needed. I cant wait for my younger daughter to turn five so that she can start learning with Osvaldo too!
In fact - I keep thinking about how the first fourteen months of our lessons were online only, and Osvaldo was so great that it didnt feel remote! Im going to recommend him for my niece on the east coast too when she turns five!

I have been taking piano lessons with Osvaldo for almost two years. I studied piano as a child but stopped playing for many years. Osvaldo was great in identifying the specific aspects of my practice that I needed to improve. Osvaldo is an excellent teacher, I am impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and patient in all aspects of teaching music. I highly recommend him.

Osvaldo it the best! He is very patient and supportive. Not to mention that he is an extremely talented musician.
Without Osvaldo as my teacher, I would have given up piano long time ago.

Osvaldo teaches piano with joy and warmth. My son (9 years old) has been with Osvaldo for 8 months, and this is his second piano teacher. We left our previous teacher because we wanted someone more technical, but would still make learning fun. This has truly been the case - our son has learned not only deeply and thoroughly, but has internalized a great deal of musical theory as well. For example, he often spontaneously plays his assignments in different keys (i.e. not whats written in his lesson books), because hes curious how it sounds and has a fundamental understanding of how to make those switches. I appreciate Osvaldo teaching our son at his level, encouraging him to experiment by applying the technical skills hes learning, and ensuring hes enjoying the process.

    Frequently asked questions

I always offer a Free 30-minute Trial Lesson. I believe is important to have the chance to meet in person before committing to private lessons, specially with small children. During the trial lesson you will see how I work and you get to ask as many questions as you would like. We also go over my studio policies.

I have a Bachelor's degree in piano peformance from the Escuela Superior de Musica y Danza de Monterrey.

I have a Master's Degree in Piano Performance and Chamber Music from San Francisco State University.

I worked at the opera company of Nuevo Leon as a vocal coach for 3 years.

I Founded and I am the Artistic Director of Phenix Opera Company, a non-profit organization in the Bay Area.

    30 minute lesson = $48

    45 minute lesson = $72

    1 hour lesson = $96

I started teaching when I was very young and I have loved it since.

I work with children (5 and up) and adults.

Last week I organized a picnic with my students and their parents to celebrate the fact that we made it through a long shelter-in-place! It was awesome!

I think the best advice for students and parents I can give is this: Have a clear idea of what you want to obtain from the lessons and be unapologetic about it. If all you want to do is play jazz piano, or sing show tunes, or only play classical  be clear and honest about it. This is the only way for you to find a good match.

Are you willing to commit to a weekly meeting for at least a two to six month period of time?

How much time are you able to put aside for your personal practice?
