Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin each lesson with vocal exercises to warm up the voice. This allows me to really work on technique. We also work on basic music theory with some sight singing. We use the second half of the lesson to work on any songs the student would like to learn. Audition prep is a big part of voice lessons. But, remember that a solid foundation is built by consistent lessons and exercises, so one lesson before an audition may not get you the results you want. Steady building of proper technique is the best way to grow your voice!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduating Summa cum Laude. I have performed with the San Diego Opera Chorus for 16 years in numerous operas.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Half hour lessons are $40
Full hour lessons are $60
How did you get started teaching?
I have always been a natural teacher. I began teaching privately at the request of some parents at schools where I taught music.
