About this pro

I am a teacher of martial arts. I hold the rank of 6th dan in the Korea Hapkido Federation as well as 6th in the Kuk Sool Kwan of Hapkido, representing 30 years of practice and 22 years of teaching.

I am also an oriental medicine physician and a scholar with 4 degrees: From SCUHS, Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, valedictorian and summa cum laude; From UCI, Bachelor of Arts in Classics, summa cum laude and Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies, summa cum laude and distinguished graduating scholar; From Humboldt State University, Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts. I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the honors society for ancient Greek and Latin.

Martial Arts is not just a skillset, but a way of life with the goal of cultivating and discovering the Self, and I teach these arts with that ultimate purpose in mind. With that said, an art that has not been assessed for solid real world application does itself a disservice, and so the art I teach can reliably be used for bodyguard work, special forces, or even ring fighting.

I am able to teach various aspects of martial arts including kickboxing, grappling, or weapon work, but the fullness of the art I teach, Kuk Sool Kwan, was used by the royal palace guards of Korea and is currently used by their special forces. Details can be found at my website, www.ockoreanmartialarts.com in addition to a class schedule. I offer classes and private instruction.

Passing on this way of life and all the benefits it provides is the most rewarding thing for me. I also enjoy the camaraderie and community of a thriving school, with everyone working together toward the common goal of self improvement.

If you’re looking for the real deal, you’ve found it. It can be hard to determine who to entrust your practice to with so many options for teachers and styles out there right now in martial arts. Master Dunchok stays very true to the art, tradition, and lineage of Kuk Sool Kwan, which encompasses everything (and then some) of any other fighting style out there. I highly recommend him and his studio. Suitable for all levels, from novice to expert.

This is truly a life enhancing experience. I walked in as a curious 29 year old not knowing much about martial arts, and not the most confident about my abilities to protect myself and family from extreme circumstances. Regardless of if a threat was ever going to happen; I felt that I needed to be ready for it. Master Mike has been key to my learning and development. His ability to teach and transfer his knowledge surpasses many of the coaches I have had during my professional basketball career. My only regret is that I didn’t join earlier in my life. I walk in dark alleys confident that I’m ready for anything. When people walk behind me, I’m prepared for anything. And this allows me to be calmer and more grounded. No wild thoughts enter my head. No impractical worries take space in the sanctuary of my mind. I’m in the warmth and solace of my abilities and find calmness and confidence because of all my lessons in martial arts. I recommend this to any and everyone.

Master Mike Dunchok provides the perfect training atmosphere and comprehensive classes for everyone, whether you're a first time fighter, hardened ring vet or just looking to get in shape. At Ancient Arts you'll find the training you need and meet amazing people, forging friendships that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend coming and joining the Kuk Sool family :)

Within a few months, I've experienced a profound amount of growth both spiritually and physically. Ancient Martial Arts has allowed me to tap into an inner source I hadn't even known existed. Master Dunckok has a special way of teaching and catering to student needs. Extremely talented, he's also funny and easy to like. I'm extremely happy to have become his student in Hapkido and QiGong.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My group classes are four nights a week for two one hour blocks, and cost between $140 and $170 monthly, depending on a number of factors including length of commitment and availability of military, family, or college student discounts.

For private lessons I charge $70 an hour and discount to $60 an hour if a client pays for at least 5 lessons at once.
