About

My name is Timur Duel, I am a classically trained guitarist who happens to be also a passionate and patient teacher with over 25 years of experience. I teach classical and acoustic guitar as well as ukulele and accept students of all ages and levels, regardless of background or possible limitations.

I can assure that you will get a solid foundation, learn proper posture and technique, get to play your favorite pieces or songs and will discover new charming compositions and I will share all my knowledge and expertise with you. I encourage my students to learn basic music theory and we would work on improvisation, accompaniment and even composition (if you are interested), which develops a creative side of you. I also prepare my students of school age for RCM examinations.

A little about me. I studied classical guitar at a local music school in Baku, Azerbaijan (back when it used to be a part of the Soviet Union) and later at Tel Aviv Music Academy in Israel (BMus). I moved to Orange County in 2003 and have been teaching and playing gigs all over SoCal ever since. I have taught lots of students throughout the years, have a lot of good memories and excited to meet and get to know you!

You can listen to my performance of one of most beloved guitar compositions "Sons de Carrilhoes" by Brazilian guitarist and composer Joao Pernambuco.

Timur teaches my 12 year-old daughter, as well as my 9 and 7 year-old sons. He is able to accommodate all three of their learning styles and skill level with ease. Timur has been very encouraging and patient with them, and they are all developing a love for classical guitar - a sign of a great teacher! Hes very knowledgeable and passionate about music and often goes out of his way to find music that will engage each of my children. Were very happy with him as a teacher!

When I was younger, I studied with some of the most prominent classical guitar teachers in the Los Angeles area. After a long hiatus from music, I resumed studying classical guitar with Timur and indeed have done so for some years now. I have definitely improved with Timur! In what way? He made me more aware of musicality, voices and rhythm. He teaches in a classical way and does not rely upon gimmicks that many less experienced, and probably less able, instructors sometimes favor. His vast knowledge of music in general enriches every session I have with him. In my opinion, he has much to offer the beginning, intermediate and advanced guitar student.

Mr. Timur Duel was definitely an excellent guitar tutor. He was very patient with my brother and he taught well. He took time and picked guitar for us, and recommended useful beginners books too. My brother really enjoyed taking his classes and became more interested in guitar and music as well.

Ive been working with Timur for a little over a year now. He is exactly the instructor I was looking for. He is classically trained and does a great job of helping me to learn the same concepts. He is patiently helping me to unlearn all the bad habits Ive picked up from trying to teach myself the guitar for years. The exercises hes given me have made a big difference in my playing. A lot of limitations I was running into on my own are no longer blocking me. I highly recommend him to anyone at any stage of learning to play a guitar.

I offer three different options: 1.Pay as you go 2.Monthly tuition (typically 4 lessons a month) 3.Bulk discounted package -10 prepaid lessons.
I began teaching by being a substitute for my first guitar teacher whenever he was absent. Later I recruited my own students by advertising at local schools and also began teaching at various community centers.
I have worked with students aged 5 y/o all the way up to 86 y/o. I've taught students of elementary, middle and high school levels, as well as homeschooling students. Speaking of adults, my students were college students, working professionals, including several top executives, seniors. Some of my students had mild or not so mild learning difficulties (such as ADHD, autism, hearing problems, Parkinson and Alzheimer diseases), but we were able to successfully overcome them , for the most part.
That changes, but my top events are concerts and art exhibitions.
Just hire me, you won't regret :)
