I have over 25 years of experience as a voice teacher and have been training singers and athletes in MDH Breathing Coordination for the last 5. I specialize in vocal health, working with students in musical theatre, pop, and classical styles, and regularly collaborate with ENTs, Speech Language Pathologists, Physical Therapists, and Sports Medicine specialists for optimal training results. I love celebrating my students' successes. I have worked with professional singers in the world of pop, R&B, musical theatre, jazz and classical. I am a functional anatomy geek and strongly believe that the more you know about what is happening in your body while you are singing, the better the results. I work with students of all ages and levels, to help them achieve their goals.
I absolutely love when a student achieves something they never thought they could do. The look of surprise when they hear an amazing sound come out of their body is priceless! I also truly enjoy working with singers who are recovering from vocal issues or are experiencing age related voice loss, guiding them to rediscover a healthy way to sing and to fall in love with their voice again is one of my greatest joys.
Crystal is a highly skilled instructor with years of professional experience and training. She is also one of the most caring teachers I've ever known, and she is 100% present with you every moment of every lesson. She's also a fantastic accompanist and is very helpful in suggesting material and coaching as well as vocal technique. With all of her vast knowledge about the voice and the breathing mechanism, she continues to add to her skills and knowledge all the time, and is unusually knowledgeable with regard to vocal pathologies. Her pricing is very fair, especially considering her extensive training and variety and depth of skills. I highly recommend her to singers of all ages!!
CrystalVoice is a one-stop-shop for anyone who truly wants to improve their voice. Crystal is an exceptional voice teacher who, without reserve I highly recommend. She is a “stand out” from the other voice teachers; she specifically helped me access my potential and more freedom by offering breathing coordination and MFR methods in my sessions...truly liberating!
She’s very personal and cares about your vocal health so you can improve your voice but are also able to keep your voice as you get older. 10/10 would recommend going to her
Crystal really understands vocal function and is able to teach it! She has been an imperative source of support and re-training during my vocal rehab from muscle tension dysphonia. She is compassionate, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend her for anyone looking for ways to improve their voice and breathing, whether they’re a beginning student or a seasoned professional looking for fine tuning. You will learn something new at every lesson!
I am very client focused. First, I determine what YOUR goals are for study. Then, we do a complete assessment to identify whatever imbalances may exist in alignment, breathing and vocal production that may be negatively affecting your singing and/or speaking voice.
Using a gentle hands-on method of procedures called MDH Breathing Coordination, we work to guide the body back to balance, optimize breathing, reduce excessive tensions and recoordinate the structure involved in breathing, speaking and singing. We then work to apply the new more efficient coordinations into singing.
At the beginning it is a lot of alignment (posture/axis) work and breathing. Results vary, but typically singers feel that by working in a careful, precise, way in the beginning, the voice begins to improve very quickly, even though there isn't a lot of singing in the first few lessons.
