About

Hi! I'm a singer-songwriter and performer with experience in a wide range of vocal styles. I studied classical voice at New England Conservatory and Brigham Young University, performed in operas, musical theater shows, professional choral ensembles, and in venues across the US for my own songs under the artist name Jordan Pratt.

Mentorship as a songwriter and as a vocalist have been essential in my career, and so I aim to pay that forward as a teacher. I believe everyone comes to songwriting and singing with something unique to offer, and I work with my students to bring that forward by catering my lessons to the individual.

My master's degree focus in Boston was in Vocal Pedagogy, the teaching of singing. I use my training and experience to help my students achieve their unique goals!

I've received over 250k streams across platforms for my artist project, Jordan Pratt. I've received awards in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the International Songwriting Competition, and participated in prestigious songwriting mentorship programs including the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project and the Society of Composers and Lyricists mentorship program.

My students have gone on to star in musical theater productions, join advanced choral ensembles, and perform professionally at the collegiate level and beyond.

You can find my music I release at www.jordanprattmusic.com

I also cohost a podcast that is currently on hiatus called "The Holistic Voice," where I interviewed professionals in the singing industry including broadway coaches, professional vocalists, and industry professionals that focus more on the business side of singing. Frequently asked questions

I like to get to know the student's interests and goals. Together we set expectations and work as partners to reach these goals. I also spend this time figuring out what works best for the student as far as learning style, and I adjust my lessons accordingly.

I have trained my voice for years at the collegiate level culminating in a Master's degree in Vocal Pedagogy from New England Conservatory. I am also an active performer and have performed regularly as a singer-songwriter, in musical theater and opera productions, and as a professional choral singer.

As a songwriter, I have participated in prestigious programs including the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project and the Society of Composers and Lyricists Mentorship Program. I've also received awards from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the International Songwriting Competition.

I started teaching during my undergraduate studies. I gravitated to it naturally, as I love to work with people and help them achieve their goals.

For both songwriting and vocal technique, I've started with group instruction and continue to teach both individually and in group settings.

I've worked mainly with students interested in contemporary vocal styles and musical theater, although I also very much enjoy teaching classical voice and have received quite a few years of training in that field. For songwriting, I'm best equipped to work with students interested in pop, singer-songwriter, and folk styles.

I recently performed with the choir Choral Arts Initiative in the world premiere of a piece called "From Wilderness." Nothing beats singing in a small ensemble and breathing life into new works!

I would encourage the student to find a teacher that you connect with and feel comfortable working with. To me, that's just as important as skill level and teaching ability. It doesn't matter how skilled a teacher is if they are unable to communicate that knowledge to the student!

I also think it's important to find a teacher that has experience in what you are trying to pursue. A classical focused teacher can definitely give you some great information that will cross over for a pop singer, but I find it best to work with someone that has professional experience in the field you are most interested in.

Do you have the time to work on the skills you are trying to acquire? What goals do you have? As a teacher, I'm just as happy working with someone trying to become the next Ariana Grande as I am with someone working up the confidence to perform karaoke. Or for songwriting, someone trying to write hits and someone trying to write better for their own personal enjoyment. As long as there is a goal and a vision we can actively work towards together, I think that is the most important thing.
