My teaching approach:

When my band Saosin is off tour, I teach guitar whenever I have free time. After touring with many different musicians and studying with Berklee Music for a number of years, I have been exposed to a number of unique techniques, ideas and ways to view music in general that I wouldn’t have normally had the chance to discover if I wasn’t so lucky. I am very passionate about passing on the things that I have learned over the years and keeping a general interest in understanding music vibrant.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I generally ask 2 questions, 1. What was the last thing you learned. So I can figure out how to keep it fun and interesting. 2. I ask what the last thing you learn that was at the "ceiling" of your playing ability. I try to find your weak points and strengths. And give you pieces of music that are both fun AND target specific things we want to work on.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

Really it is up to you. My goal is to make you a better overall musician. While technique and notes are a big of playing guitar, there are many parts of music that rarely get looked at as guitar players.... Groove, Tone, Dynamic, Space, Emotion and Phrasing will be looked at as much as Technique and Notes.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:
