About

I am an active performer, educator, soloist, and ensemble singer in classical, jazz, and other musical styles. I have sung Alto with the Los Angeles Master Chorale since 2006. I am a session musician (singing for film, TV, and animation) and also work as a voice over artist. I have been teaching steadily since 2004, working with students of all ages and backgrounds.

I enjoy guiding students to find their own unique voice, to work through their challenges, and build on their strengths, just as I continue to do in my many years as a professional musician.

Sharmila knew exactly how to make my voice work at its optimal levels. Ive always said, I dont have a very strong voice, but Sharmila brushed my self-assessment aside and just began working with what she said was a beautiful voice. From the beginning I had confidence to let more power come through when I sang. Id come to Sharmila to prepare to sing in my friends wedding. The song was challenging for me, but four months later I offered the song to the couple with my whole heart and voice. And I sounded great! Ive recommended Sharmila to family members and they love working with her, too.

Sharmila is a patient, respectful, and knowledgeable voice teacher. In every class, I felt like she knew what my voice needed improvement on & helped me understand my instrument better & what healthy singing looked like. I look forward to working with her again!

She is flexible. I came in with specific songs I wanted to work on and she accommodated me while also adding traditional vocal training. Need to go back for more.

    Frequently asked questions

I began my music studies at a very young age, starting piano lessons at age six and singing lessons at age eleven. I was a music student at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and continued on to study classical voice at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I discovered my passion for jazz. After college, I was accepted into the “Jazz in July” program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and worked with the legendary jazz singer Sheila Jordan.
