About
****now also offering online lessons at a discounted rate*** Hi, I’m Lucia. I just recently moved to Oakland from New York. I have been enjoying teaching violin and viola for the past 10 years and worked successfully with students of all ages and all levels- from complete beginners to music majors at the university level. My teaching philosophy: I like to make sure that my students have strong fundamental skills (reading music, healthy and efficient violin technique, good practice habits, basic theory- always depending on the level). I find that this gives us a strong basis to realize the musical and expressive aspects of the music. It also allows the student to learn music faster, more independently, and to perform with confidence! In the first lesson, I like to have a conversation with the student and parent, what their goals regarding violin/viola playing are, and tailor the lessons to the student's individual needs. In the first lesson, I will usually have the student bring materials that they have already been using. I like to hear them play a scale and a piece that they already know. This way I can assess what the student already knows and what they need to improve, so I can create a lesson plan for the student that best meets their needs. If you’re just starting violin lessons, don’t worry about bringing any music, just come as you are and bring your violin 🙂!
