Spindrift School Of Performing Arts
We are a non-profit children's Performing Arts School. We offer classes and private lessons and summer camps. We do have adults in our private studios and a dance class or two. Established in 1994, we operate in Pacifica primarily but have outreach in schools and preschools as far as San Francisco. We offer session based training in music, dance, theatre, improvisation and musical theatre. We offer private lessons in piano, voice, cello, violin and guitar. We have a Dance Company for ages 7 to 19 with 4 levels offered and produce a dance concert yearly. Our dance classes have recitals at the end of each session. We offer 18 performing arts summer camp opportunities including dance, musical theatre and acting.
We have always found joy and accomplishment in following our Mission Statement:
To train and inspire students of all ages in the performing arts, while instilling the qualities of confidence,
Self-discipline, creativity, and respect for others.
Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have about 5 to 8 instructors at any given time. Student is asked to commit to a calendar of lessons, one per week. Summers are negotiable according to your schedule. We have 1 formal recital per year and may have one or two informal ones throughout the year. We encourage our private students to take Music Theory or another group music class (voice, choir). If you commit to your lessons, we commit to you and the lesson time you book is yours.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our instructors have degrees in the subjects they teach. Each has their own philosophy of teaching and that is information available on the website.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$35 a half hour. $52.50 for :45 minutes & $70 per hour
How did you get started teaching?
See bios of individual instructors on our website.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types! Ages 5 to 80!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
We seek to both introduce children to the arts as well as provide professional expertise to children and adults. We thrive on communication and realize the best experience comes when you have a good bond with your instructor. We are not competitive so asking to try another instructor isn't an issue. We try and match the style of instructor to what the student is looking to accomplish.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If you are an adult, it is easy to state what you would like to accomplish. If you are the parent of a younger child, often the expectations come from the parent and we like to know what those are. Some parents simply want their children to love and appreciate music. Some parents want a very structured program with a defined track of acheivement. Both and everything in between are scenarios we can provide but it is good to know at the outset. We strive at all times to keep all our students inspired in their arts education.
