About this pro

I am a piano teacher and composer with more than 35 years of experience. My students have been admitted to Julliard and the New York New Eastman School of Music. I prepare my students for ABRSM exams (Piano and Music Theory). They perform on annual class recitals (once or twice a year).

I enjoy developing my students' new skills, encourage them, teach them to stay focused and not to give up even if it becomes challenging to accomplish the task.

Mr. Dimov is a great, experienced music teacher with a proven ability to get the very best out of the students. My son has been learning piano, music theory with him for less than a year and has grown tremendously. He is very patient and encouraging, providing friendly environment for kids to learn music concept and piano skills. I highly recommend Mr. Dimov as a piano/music theory instructor for anyone who is interested in learning and improving piano performance skills.

You won't find a better person to teach your son or daughter piano. Ilya, though he comes from the rigorous discipline of Russian music practice, knows that young people have competing interests, and sometimes don't practice as much as they should. His patience and understanding are what is critical to instill the love of music which fosters a good study ethic. Slow, careful, and varied approaches completely changed my son's approach to piano from bad posture to enthusiastic, musically emotional piano playing. Besides being an excellent teacher and performer, Ilya is also an accomplished composer and arranger. This give him the ability to explain music theory in lively ways that give his students ways to practically apply the music theory he also imparts, to enrich his lessons even further. One afternoon a season, Ilya and is wife open their home to host a recital by heir students. You will be entranced by the intimate atmosphere, far removed from the normal venues, cavernous and empty, in which other learners display their talents. And when you hear his advanced students, You will be transported to another, almost lost, world, filed with revenue for good music.

Ilja Dimov was my son’s piano teacher for 3 or 4 years prior to his moving away to college. What a wonderful supremely gifted teacher! My son learned a great deal of technique from Dimov as well as how to practice effectively. Dimov is a very talented classical pianist himself and composes music in his spare time. His approach is sensitive. He listens very closely and illustrates, through discussion and demonstration, the nuance beneath the notes and how best to approach complex passages. I would unhesitatingly recommend Ilja Dimov to any student wishing to seriously improve or take up the piano. He is a rare gem.
