Dirato Music Lessons
About
I listen to my students and i strive to match my lessons to their learning style and musical goals. I have over ten years experience teaching in an elementary classroom setting, and I sincerely love teaching music to students of any age or level.
I enjoy the privilege of helping students discover the joy making their own music, or mastering a tough song, achieving a goal, or simply working through a challenge. My favorite memories were learning the piano, guitar and drums, and to be able to facilitate the same opportunity for my students brings me joy.
The speed or amount of progress you make from lessons depends on your attitude and the effort you put in. Practicing even a few minutes everyday keeps you on track towards your goals.
I have my B.A. in music, I majored in percussion and mallet percussion, Royal Conservatory for piano and I learned to play guitar and bass as a teenager. I play piano, guitar and sing in two bands and I am slowly teaching myself the banjo. I am from Canada, and have enjoyed the Bay Area as my home for the past 10 years.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We would start by identifying student goals, what would you like to be able to do? We would assess levels, and I would provide student with a leveled lesson book. I also start a notebook for the student which contain my weekly notes and students can write notes as well. Its kind of a quick journal that marks progress. Each lesson will come with notes so students remember what they should practice or try or learn more about.
I usually divide lessons into 3 parts-
Warm ups/technique-scales, arpeggios, rhythm exercises
Leveled lesson book -music theory and curriculum
Repertoire- full songs that are chosen based on student level and interest.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to teaching small group and private music and art lessons for 15 years, I have taught elementary music in Pittsburg for 10 years, i have directed multiple daycamps, and I have directed 2 and a half (thanks, covid) musicals for elementary students.
Education-
I have my BA in Music, BA in Education, minor in French and I have my teaching credential.
