About

My teaching approach:

Hello my name is a Kenneth, I go by KC, and I've been playing guitar since I was 9 and I am now 18. I was initially classically trained in Spanish and Renaissance styles of guitar for 5 years, and then I played Jazz in a Jazz Ensemble at Ruben S. Ayala High School. I also play in a small band that performs for the County of San Bernardino. I have taught friends and family how to play guitar for a long time, but now taking it professionally in the past 3 months. I aim to teach every student how to read music, helping them to pick up any style of music very quickly and easily.

My influences are:

My influence is the school yard teacher in elementary school who taught me how to play Smoke On the Water on his guitar and got me to get into guitar. Of course my other influences are bands like the Arctic Monkeys, the Rolling Stones, the Strokes, Led Zeppelin, and Vampire Weekend.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

I will teach anyday of the work week after 4 and any weekend mornings.

Guitar Techniques:

Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Performance, Reading Music

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

With a new student I always grab my lowest level guitar book and see how far they can go. This will decide if we should move on to bigger and better things or just stay learning the basics.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

In a guitar lesson, I usually start with a simple warm-up with scales, rhythms, or exercises out of a book, and get your fingers ready to play. The exercises are just good practice as well. I then move on to a book teaching how to read music and I go over generic Etudes, Waltzes, and other songs to help master reading music. Then I spend the remainder of the time teaching my student how to play songs of their choice.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal guitar student is one who wants to learn how to read and understand the guitar and not just one who wants to play simple rock riffs off of tabs and never really learn anything. I want to teach the guitar as a whole, not just little songs to impress friends and family, that comes with practice and dedication.
