About
The following is a brief description, however, please visit either like2sing.com, celloantics.com and Beethovenandfriends.com for a more comprehensive description of what I have to offer.
In addition to studying and performing music since I was 8 years old, I have also studied and taught anatomy and physiology and body mechanics. I have a bachelors degree in music and am one class short of a masterst degree. I was awareded outstanding singer of the year my senior year.
I provide specific instruction about how to use your body to produce the best singing or cello tone quality. My mix of singing and cello playing has strengthened my understanding of musical performance having performed both solo and ensemble literature. I have been teaching music for 14 years and I work hard to improve my teaching skills.
I have sung opera and choral music. I was a professional soloist at landmark churches in Los Angeles, performing in the choir and as a soloist in numerous oratorios. I have played in the Camellia Orchestra and am currently a member of the Beethoven and Friends Trio which performs locally.
I love helping people achieve their goals to be a musician. I have students of all ages which keeps it interesting to me. People in the United States frequently are not adept at using their bodies in a coordinated way. Learning to sing and play cello helps people develop body awareness and coordination.
Also, helping people understand what makes music lovely, entertaining and spritually satisfying is great fun.

What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children as young as 9 and adults as old as 18. I have taught beginners and experience musicians. Singing students have worked on musical theater, and commercial music from various decades. Several of my students play guitar and are learning to sing along with it. I have middle and high school students who have prepared for roles in school productions. Some students sing in choirs and others sing opera.
I teach children and teens who play in school and local orchestras as well as adults who have always wanted to play the cello.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This is a tough one. What I really find exciting, is when a student struggles with learning a new skill or concept and then they "get it."
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the instructor really understand the mechanics of how to play the instrument or sing. For example violinists do not know how to play a cello - it requires different mechanics.
Choose a teacher who both performs but is also committed to teaching, always looking for new ways to communicate.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Does the teacer perform regularly on the instrument (including voice) that they teach. Is teaching a primary acitivity for the teacher. Does the teacher respect your goals and are they qualified to meet them.
