Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It is great to have that first meeting and get to know each other and the teaching methods I use. Usually, we talk a bit and I have some questions about your learning style, and then begin with some assessments to see where you are on a skill and talent level. Then talk about how to beast teach and work together with you!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have several degrees in Music and Voice including a Doctorate in Choral/Vocal Music.
I have 30 years experience in conducting choirs and orchestras. I have 25 + years teaching private voice, theory, conducting. Please Google Sean Boulware to see performance and experience references on the web.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rates are $50 for a half-hour and $85 per hour. Single lessons are fine and Month at a time are fine as well. Students must come to my home in Pebble Beach, or lessons can be done online as well.
How did you get started teaching?
I am a choral conductor and vocal teacher by vocation and training. So as early as 13, I knew what I wanted to do. Ihave been teaching since I was taught, and I love working with people to help them find and unlock their best voice!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students and all ages of students. I love it when a student gets really excited about learning new skills and improving their voice beyond what they thought was possible.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
No one has all the answers. Voice teaching is about discovery and a journey together. Good voice teachers adapt their teaching skills to the needs of the student and the learning style of the student.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What kind of training do you really want? What kinds of music are you looking to be able to sing? What direction are you wanting to head with lessons?
