As a performing concert pianist, nothing is more fulfilling than watching my students grow and learn more about themselves through the study of music. Seeing my students learn how to be patient and analytical gives me a sense of purpose, as these are traits that are in short supply these days.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, a consultation is scheduled in order to get to know one another, assess whether we are the right fit, and to go over studio policies and expectations.

Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Master of Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts from UC San Diego.
Additional studies at the Peabody Institute of Music and the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I try to accommodate based on a student's potential, drive, accomplishments, and socio-economic status, but my fees for most students are:
30/45 minute lessons: $79/$99 - for young beginners for the first 6 months of lessons.
60 minute lessons: $109 - this is standard for most students
90 minute lessons: $119 - for the most advanced and pre-professional students who have upcoming recitals, competitions, and auditions.
These prices all include the following:
- Regular performance classes where students get together and perform for one another, offer critique, and discuss musical topics with one another.
- Lesson planning and strategizing for each individual student.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching as a teenager, teaching the basics to younger children living in the Seattle neighborhood I grew up in. While studying at the Oberlin Conservatory, I taught pianists who persued piano as a minor under the supervision of the country's leading pedagogues, and then went on to coach around the world. Most recently, I coached advanced piano majors and chamber ensembles at UC San Diego.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students of all ages and skill levels including beginner children and adults with great success, teenage prodigies, advanced college students, and coached professional pianists.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Early in 2017, I was part of an outreach program where myself and two opera singers developed a performance-presentation that brought the wonderful world of opera and live performance to a local san diego elementary school mainly comprised of under-priveleged students. Seeing them light up and show sincere curiosity of the art form was fulfilling in ways regular performances can lack sometimes. I hope to participate in such programs a regular part of my professional career.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Shop around and interview many teachers before you begin! There are many teachers who may be very friendly, but are not credentialed in any way. Some teachers even hate teaching. Find someone who obviously loves it, sees the best potential for each prospective student, and has the skill to guide a student to high levels of achievement.
