Destiny blessed me with the privilege to study for three years with vocal "plumber" teacher, Judy Davis. Judy taught many well-known artists, including, but certainly not limited to: Barbra Streisand, Steve Perry, Nat King Cole, The Kingston Trio, Eddie Money, Chris Isaac, Green Day and many others. Because of Judy’s vocal techniques I was able to sing 30 or more songs a night with a strong and fresh sound.
I attended San Diego State University, graduated with honors and received my Bachelor of Arts in music. Attending the School of Music at SDSU, I continued developing my piano skills, which I began in my teens, with private lessons and classes. In addition, I took voice lessons from Mary Mackenzie (an opera singer and a graduate of Julliard).
I continued my pursuit of knowledge and began attending vocal workshops in Los Angeles. These were taught by Elisabeth Howard (founder of The Vocal Power Academy), Lis Lewis (teacher of No Doubt and Linkin Park), and a workshop taught by Seth Riggs (teacher of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder).
Being a musician, has made my life worth living. As a teacher, sharing my knowledge with others fulfills me beyond measure. I truly love teaching! And more importantly, my students learn, enjoy the lessons, and are grateful for our time together. The best gift I can receive as a teacher is witnessing my students confidence and development as singers and pianists.
Having taught voice and piano, at music academies, various music schools and studios, and being a performer myself, I am now bringing my experience to the world through online teaching!
My 8 year old daughter has been getting lessons from Salli for a year and a half and she is playing really well. Salli taught her to read music and makes the lessons fun, so that my daughter looks forward to her lesson each week. We originally started with a different teacher and my daughter wanted to quit piano, because she wasn’t enjoying it. I’m so happy that we decided to keep trying with a different teacher and got Salli, because that made all the difference.
"What can I say. I was the guy who everybody said " You can't sing!" During the two years of working with Salli, she helped me to prove them all wrong! Now I'm singing with a rock band having big time fun. She is very flexible and easy going, no pressure but expects you to do your home work. She developed a routine specifically designed for me to get me the results I was looking for. You may think singing teachers are all alike. Not true. I have worked with several other instructors over the years but Salli's direction was what I needed to get to the next level." -Daniel Carr, singer and keyboardist for 'Nerve Damage'
I have been singing since I was a child however never had any proper vocal training until I started taking vocal lessons with Salli. She taught me many helpful techniques with singing from breathing mechanics to how to accurately mouth the words I am singing to project my notes better as well as many other techniques. Over the years I have used her techniques when recording and performing and I have seen my vocal abilities enhance and become way better than they have ever been. Salli is very professional and very knowledgeable in music and singing, and also a very sweet and sympathetic instructor. She really wants to help you perfect your art and will make sure it does happen, as I have seen it happen with me! She is also very patient and you can always discuss with her what you need to work on. I HIGHLY recommend Salli as your musical instructor, she truly enjoys her craft and loves to help her students.
Salli has strong skill sets supported by an educational and performance platform. She is personable, accommodating, and approachable. Learning and working with Salli is fun!
Started piano lessons in my teens through private lessons and then in college classes. Sang in bands from northern and southern California. Attained my degree in music in 2006. I've taught at music academies, studios, schools and through my own studio.
I have taught piano and voice, to children and adults, from 4 and half to over 65 years of age. Some of my students are working as recording and performance artists in bands throughout the country.
