Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:
To asses a student I have a “Student Information Form” that they complete as well as another form I use with the first call. It has many questions about their history in music lessons. Next, they play for me and I can immediately know what areas they will need to develop and practice. I use exercises and along with songs that the student is interested in to get them inspired to want to play their best.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:
I always offer water or coffee as we settle down to review last lesson. We get tuned up, and I ask student to play what they worked on. Next we solve any technical questions, or correct the music or tab so that it’s and sounds good. Usually we listen to new music and begin the next song.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:
My ideal guitar student has a willingness to be patient with themselves and never take lessons to serious to the point that they lose the joy of playing. They have an interest in all kinds of music they should listen to music regularly. A student doesn’t need to compare themselves with me or anyone else and never be critical of how they play. Keeping a positive attitude is a real key.
