About

I am a strong believer in the fact that anyone can sing. It is often that I see people who have been told by themselves or by those around them that they cannot sing, when in fact that is not true.

I am passionate about ensuring proper vocal technique for the voice, especially making it possible to experience the proper technique and move forward in experimenting to find your own sound. I emphasize more in contemporary styles, but I am very comfortable with classical styles as well.

I am a musical theater student at California State University, Fullerton. While I've only had a few years of formal voice training, I've had many years of singing experience within my home, at church, and through my family. A couple of my close relatives are professional vocalists and actors, so my experience is derived from them.

Vocal coaching is something that I've done in my spare time for friends who have needed help, or a couple of times for a school in the Bay Area.

I enjoy experiencing the wonders of the voice. There are so many different ways to tell stories through singing, and I think that is at the core of my motivation for this work. Technique, form, pitch, and vocal agility are great to work on– but using those to tell a story is what gets me out of bed in the morning.

Frequently asked questions

In the beginning, there are a lot of apprehensions one can feel when it comes to the voice and singing. Which is why I feel that it is important for me to establish a process to learning the voice first. I know that it can be scary, it's something that a newer student may not feel is within their grasp, but I can assure you, that if given time with my process, it will come to help you grow eventually.

From a more logistical standpoint– My first meeting with a student is mostly diagnostic, for them and for me. I want them to get to know who I am, what I value, and how I teach. More importantly, I want to get to know them and what they value and how I can best adapt my teaching style to what they need.

I am currently a musical theater student at California State University, Fullerton. Formal vocal training in all styles and genres is a required part of our coursework. In high school I was a leading vocalist within my class in the highest levels of drama and choir. I've had many years of work experience as well, singing in musicals, as the lead or as an ensemble member. I have also worked with many other vocal coaches, including Natalie Weiss, who is a phenomenal coach based in NYC.

Knowing how expensive vocal lessons can be for students, I try to keep my lessons as cheap as I can. Usually it's a $25 consultation fee, and after that about $50 a lesson (1 hour). Depending on what works for you, money is completely based on the amount of time we spend together. If you cannot afford the $50 for 60 minutes lesson fee, we can always lessen the time for less money. I want to work with whatever your needs are.

I've worked with people of all ages, and hoping to work with more! I welcome students of all ethnicities, sexualities, genders, and disabilities. Working with anyone on the subject of voice is such a great experience for the both of us, so the more types of people I get to meet, the better!

ALWAYS MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A MIRROR OR A WAY TO VIEW YOURSELF. Something a lot of unexperienced vocal coaches will forget is that the student needs to be able to see their body to understand their body. Mirrors or video cameras are absolutely essential to the training of proper vocal technique, as it is a great way to understand how certain tensions work within the body. Be careful of this!

When thinking of questions, try to specify exactly what you need. Sometimes a student will ask me a question along the lines of, "How do I sound better?" or "How do I sing that?" There's no specific way to answer these questions. Maybe try narrowing down exactly what you're asking of me and of yourself, and we'll be able to find a happy medium.
