About

You want to sing or act! There is a passionate voice calling from deep within your heart trying to express itself.

Perhaps you have taken lessons in the past but you didn't get the results you wanted, or even worse found that singing or performing became much harder or confusing from a teachers "technique"!

Or you are new to singing and want to develop life long healthy singing habits and the confidence to share your passion and musical storytelling with the world. Or new to acting and dont even know where to begin.

I work one on one with every student, in an ego free and safe environment, to help them develop healthy vocal production/ a reliable "actor's tool belt", and a roadmap to achieve their unique artistic vision and career goals.

I deeply believe in, and advocate for, the intentional and intelligent artist, equipping all of my students with the confidence, tools, and training to make and trust their own artistic choices, both in shaping the music or script and in shaping their careers.

I offer both in home lessons or a studio location.

I worked with Kateland on a song for a musical theatre audition and it was SO helpful! She brought not only an understanding of music and healthy technique, but also helped me understand how my voice works so that I can get the sound I want from a place of more understanding of my instrument. She really brings a personal approach to each student, I always felt like she was really listening to my voice and approaching it from a unique perspective of how it felt for me and what I personally needed. Shes also super sweet and encouraging, so the lesson was not only helpful but fun too! I highly recommend working with her.

I had a phenomenal experience with Kateland! Me being a novice in regards to understanding my own voice instrument and how it all works, I really appreciated how she broke down scientifically all the different parts that go into the sounds we make when we sing or even talk. I felt very educated after my session! With guidance from Kateland I was able to play around with my voice and explore my own sound. From breathing technique to where I should focus my voice depending how high or low I needed to go I was really able to improve the quality of my singing from just ONE lesson! Two thumbs up, 5 stars, 10 out of 10 this girl knows what shes doing. Highly recommended!

When Kateland first told me about her class, I thought wow I can try this, I’d never sought out singing but it’s more than that and how Kateland showed me how it relates to acting, I was amazed, and how comfortable I felt with the techniques Kateland teaches, and I know you will be sweetly amazed!!!

I received my Bachelor’s of Music from University of California Irvine and my Masters of Music from San Francisco Conservatory of Music, both in vocal performance. At the conservatory I focused on classes in training the musical brain and becoming a teaching artist. I am very interested in the psychology of studying and training art and how to most efficiently develop the voice in the most fun and easy to understand methods. I tailor lesson plans to the individual student (their goals, song choices and feelings about singing and their voice) and develop common vocabulary with them based on how they feel and experience the songs they sing and vocal exercises we do. Lessons are typically a balance of engaging the imagination, exploring the physical experience of different techniques, and then backing it up with any scientific information that can help to clarify questions about what they are feeling when they sing. I am also a classically trained actor and incorporate how to emotionally analyze/breakdown songs to help singers allow their emotions to color the voice- to make the song their own and to find their unique style and sound.
I specialize and am passionate about working with students age 8 and up.

I encourage all students to "shop around" find a teacher or a coach that you connect with and feel comfortable learning from. There are many teaching styles and "personalities" out there. When you trust and respect the teacher or coach you generally are able to develop faster as a student!

Ask yourself:

What goals do I want to achieve?

What skills do I want to develop?

Then use your answers to create questions when meeting with a new teacher. Based on the teacher's answers you will quickly discover if the teacher can help you reach your goals and if you are on the same page as far artistic style, as well as the time frame of skill development.

(True skill development takes time and practice, preparation/ coaching for auditions and performances can be prepared within a time frame)
