Betsy has a year and a half of doctoral work, 40 years in performance, and 30 years in teaching, and has been composing for over 15. She especially enjoys working with those that want to develop their creativity through improvisation. She teaches at home in Santa Monica. Also, for those interested, she has over 10 years of vocal accompanying experience , and is available for hire as a vocal accompanist.She has also served as church pianist for the United Methodist, Episcopalian, Unitarian, and Christian Science churches over the past 40 years.Betsy is a dedicated composer and recording artist of her own original piano works. Miss Grant and her music were featured in a live radio broadcast interview on the show "Jewels and Binoculars" on KKUP-FM radio 91.5. Prior to that, her cd "The Listening Heart was played in it's entirety on KZFR-FM radio 90.1. Most recently, her cd "Love Heals All" was played - also in it's entirety - on KTOO radio in Juneau, Alaska. Betsy Grant has won performance awards and competitions nationally and internationally for more than 20 years. She played Gershwin as a young piano soloist with the Columbia Artists' Young Americans tour, and performed for Aaron Copland and Jose Iturbi before she was 20. She has been soloist with the Brentwood Symphony. Los Angeles Concert Orchestra, Rio-Hondo Symphony, Metropolitan Symphony, Palisades Symphony as well as others. She is a member of the National Association Of Professional Women.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Beginning students wll be treated with TLC!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

30 years of working with students of all ages.

How did you get started teaching?

I grew up in a musical family of piano teachers.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I taught a young beginning adult student to read and play easy pieces in about 4 months. It brought her great joy.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Someone who really loves their work, not just someone with credentials.
