About

Hi. I have been teaching all ages and levels of ability for 25 years now. I have two college 4 year degrees. I have no problems teaching kids or adults, and can supplement their learning as needed for any special occasion, including blind and disabled people. I have perfect pitch and teach musicianship, theory and composition as well as performance. I am also the house piano teacher at Cassell's music in San Fernando. I have also a engineering degree, but preferred to work as the musician. I love this job would be happy to hear from you. More about Greg Greg Burkher has been teaching piano lessons in Woodland Hills and The San Fernando Valley for over 25 years. He has a BA in Music Composition and a minor in Piano Performance, and a BS in Computer Electronics and High Tech Management. Originally a Piano Performance major, the economy of the 80’s made him change his major to Computer Electronics. He worked as an engineer for a few years and decided it was not the career for him. “It was to inhuman and I was no longer interested in the technology, so I went back to college and finished the original degree. I know school very well!” Greg Burkher is extremely good at explaining concepts to people, especially music concepts. Burkher has studied with Don Haas, Charles Gustavson, Thomas La Ratta and Herb Mickman. Greg’s Woodland Hills piano lessons incorporate his own method of explaining musical concepts of theory and musicianship, as well as any preexisting method you may decide upon, specializing in Bastien, Burnam, Thompson, and Faber and Faber, as well as Jazz methods by Debbie Denke and Bill Cunliff. “I especially like to see how students think about musical concepts and see if I can take their understanding and augment it in a productive way.” In his Corpus Christi Piano Lessons Greg also teaches concepts such as perfect pitch with various approaches he has perfected over the years. Greg Burkher is also a performer and plays for special occasions. Greg plays all types of music from Jazz to Rock to Classical.

I get to practice and teach the subject I love. Music is everything, physical mental, emotional it and involves all of our senses. It's a wonderful job.

Greg Burkher has been my piano teacher for the past ten years, and I would highly reccomend him as a teacher. He has taught me how to use jazz chords with many classic piano pieces. He also has assisted me in learning classical music compositions, as well as giving me assistance in writing a few of my own pieces. Greg is a dedicated professional.

Our 9 year old son has been taking piano lessons from Greg for just over two years. Greg is a gifted teacher and continually inspires our son to play an ever expanding repertoire as well as educating him on the finer points of music theory. We are very happy with him as a teacher.

    Frequently asked questions

First, I assess the student and see where they're starting and what it is ability wise and what they want to learn. He also plays into it. Then I derive from the vast majority of book knowledge that I have and start him on the appropriate books, ear training and memorization that are appropriate for their point you're at for learning.

I have 4  college degrees. I have studied with some of the finest pianists in California.

I charge $40 for a half hour lesson, 50 for a 45 minute lesson and $60 for an hour. I travel to the students house at no extra cost and bring the books with me that will have to be paid for.

Loving this subject so much, I have found that I also have exceptional skills at explaining concepts to people. I integrate this with my performance knowledge and come up as the teacher.

I have worked with all ages and levels of abilities for students. I have had several with learning disabilities, that is no problem.

My favorite events are the recitals, where the students get to display their hard efforts in a performance setting. It is very fulfilling to me as a teacher to see all of our efforts the students and mine, come to fruition at these events.

Check out the teachers education. There is no easy replacement for a college degree. Check out how long they have been teaching. I have been teaching for over 25 years. Talk to them in person and get an idea that they are truly the right teacher for you.

As a student, you should try and have a good idea of where you stand and what you are looking for.    What music interests you. Why are you drawing of the piano. Do you want to do this professionally, or is it just a hobby. How long do you intend on studying.
