About

I'm Max Diamond. I concentrate on central body strength and spinal neutrality to protect the low back and enhance posture and balance. I also want to teach students to build their own practice and have fun with yoga. I have been teaching classes in Santa Monica for 6 + years. Please feel free to call or email for more information.

I enjoy helping people find what I have found in my yoga practioce, and leading them to discover how to build a personal practice and draw upon their own awareness to increase calm and release tension. Also, many people are unfamiliar with healthier ways of aligning and moving the body, and I enjoy showing my students how to apply the lessons of proper body mechanics and alignment in every aspect of their lives.

Frequently asked questions

I start by finding out as much as I can about their intention and goals for their practice. I ask about any injuries, yoga experience, and fitness level. I explain the concepts in which my practice is grounded: central muscle strength, spinal protection through lumbar neutrality, stress relief through mindfulness and self-acceptance (please call or write me for more detailed information). Then we begin working, finding movements and postures that move the student towards achieving the goals of their practice.

I hold the E-RYT 200 certification from Yoga Alliance. I trained with Matthew Cohen of Sacred Energy Arts and Erich Schiffman, author of Moving Into Stillness. I also hold certifications in chair yoga and neutral spine performance training. I have taught public classes and individual private clients for seven years.

Private lessons are $90 for 60 minutes or $125 for 90 minutes. These sessions may be attended by up to 3 students. For private classes with more students, the rate is $25 per student for 60 minutes and $35 for 90 minutes.

My trainers, Matthew Cohen and Erich Schiffman, urged me to train with them after I had practiced with them for 10 years. I found the training illuminating and rewarding, anmd my initial contacts with students exhilarating.

My teaching practice has encompassed students from preschool into their 80s. Many adults come to me with physical injuries and illnesses, and I have taught students with Spinal Stenosis, Multiple Sclerosis, and Hydrocephalis, and conditions that include fear of falling (balance issues) and, especially, low back pain. My private sessions are customized mto the specific needs of each participant.
