How did you get started teaching?
As the musical director for several bands, I was already teaching fellow band mates music lessons, and guitar lessons, in order to optimize the bands' sound. In 1991, one of my band mates suggested I do it professionally. So I did, and here I am, decades later, still teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
My experience includes teaching very young children, teenagers, professionals, retired folks, beginners and advanced students. I teach most styles.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have been performing ELECTRIC and ACOUSTIC guitar music for over 30 years, playing in Spain, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
I perform with BANDS in Santa Rosa and throughout Northern California. As an acoustic SOLOIST, I play original compositions in clubs and cafés or background music for wineries, private parties, wedding receptions, restaurants or corporate events.
I am very proud of the shows with my band HOT ZONE.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Do your homework by researching and asking questions.
I suggest you meet at least once with each teacher to see who would be the best fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The student should get to know themselves first before interviewing for a teacher.
The student should ask themselves, why do they want to take lessons, and what styles are they interested in.
A good teacher can help the student determine this.
