Hughie Stone Fish

Hughie is such a gifted teacher! I have been songwriting and playing guitar for over 15 years but just recently jumped in to learn/explore more and start recording my own songs.

His musical prowess enabled him to meet me exactly where I am on my musical journey and design lessons tailored specifically for me. Weve touched everything from songwriting process and chord selection to use of a DAW, theory and everything in between. He does it all with a supreme level of patience and a touch of humor that makes lessons quite enjoyable!

I started piano lessons with Hughie Stonefish earlier this year in January. I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated these lessons for many reasons. Before starting with Hughie, I had prior experience playing trumpet for 11 years. In high school, I was in concert band as well as marching band and continued with marching band in college. I had almost no music theory understanding, it was just never really a priority in my prior band experiences. Hughie does an amazing job incorporating music theory concepts into our lessons. I really appreciate this because music has started to make more sense to me in a deeper and more meaningful way. We will sometimes take a whole lesson to work on a concept but Hughie also points out examples of concepts we have previously talked about shown in whichever piece we are working on. I love this because it helps reinforce those ideas for me.

Hughie will also frequently check-in with me to see what I feel like doing some days. This is helpful in combating my ADHD by keeping me interested and focused. It also makes the lessons feel more personalized.

I am very much looking forward to continuing lessons with Hughie into the new year!
