About

Hi! I'm Alice and I am a classically-trained piano teacher and collaborator with 8+ years of experience in teaching all levels and ages.

My unique compassion based approach helps me prioritize my students' well-being while teaching them how to build their own creativity and musicianship. I have taught students from beginners to advanced between the ages of 6 to 70. While I specialize in classical music, I incorporate improvisation, pop music chords, music theory, ear training, and music history into lessons. I tailor each lesson to the what my students need. Music is one of the most powerful tools for somatic expression and release. It is a part of my way to advocate for mental health.

Additionally, I love to collaborate with other artists and perform for large or small audiences. I am happy to collaborate with all genres of music in all settings. I have experience working with violinists, cellists, clarinetists, vocalists, and more.

I have watched my students, through commitment, transform from insecurity to creativity in a very short amount of time. Lessons are a partnership. I am fully dedicated to my students and can promise that the work put in by you will be matched by me.

Please contact me at 818-401-7983 by call or text if you think we might be a good fit.

I am happy to set up a trial lesson.

My bio:

Alice Hyoung is a 28-year-old Korean-American classical pianist from Los Angeles with a passion for connection. Through unwavering discipline, Alice has made appearances in both performance and competition since the age of 13, making her debut with the Doctor’s Symphony Orchestra at the age of 16. In 2012, Alice placed as winner of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Young Artists Competition, performing Saint Saens' Concerto. Alice has consistently been chosen to receive scholarships and top awards (International Liszt Competition 2016, Southwestern Youth Music Festival, Gail Newby Concerto Competition, etc). Some of her unique performance opportunities include performances in Beijing and master class participation with some of the most respected pianists of our time (Oxana Yablonskaya, Frederic Chiu, John Perry, and Logan Skelton). Alice especially loves to perform concertos and has thorough experience in collaboration with various instrumentalists.

After receiving her B.M. from Brigham Young University and M.M. from Manhattan School of Music, Alice currently resides in Boulder, Colorado with her bird Ferris, pursuing a doctorate degree in music. She currently offers lessons online and in person. Alice works to be a voice of activism, speaking truth, compassion, sensitivity, and boldness through music. As a strong mental health advocate, Alice seeks to be trauma-informed in her work and personal interactions. Some of her other interests include reading, connecting with nature, people-watching, and traveling.
