About
I have over 20 years playing music. My passions include the classical and jazz piano and guitar. I also enjoy 80's progressive rock on guitar. 12 years of playing classical and jazz trumpet/ coronet. All lessons are 1 on 1 with the teacher. Recitals 2x a year. Lessons are $20 per 1/2 hour.
I love being able to work with children and to watch their faces light up when they make connections and grow with each piece of music they learn. I enjoy watching and being a part of the building blocks of music are laid for a foundation of musical understanding and performance. All of these skills translate over into all aspects of life and I believe allow for students to successfully figure out how to break obstacles down into manageable pieces and surmount them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I interview the prospective student to ensure we will be a match as student and teacher. I like to see what kind of music the student is into and then we can work on devising practice schedule based on the students musical experience. We focus on preparation, music theory in the selected genre and music performance.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 20 years playing music in jazz bands, new haven youth symphony and private study. I am an occupational therapist by day and this contributes to the study of music by working with students on being goal oriented.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
pricing system is $20 per half hour. Lesson schedule is based upon individual basis and interview with the student.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching my own children about 8 years ago in guitar and piano. From there I branched out by word of mouth.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with age 4 up to any age. I work with experienced as well as students brand new too music.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Practice is the key. Consistent practice and a good relationship between teacher and student is paramount.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The student should think about what kind of music they wish to play and see if the teacher also likes and can teach that kind of music. A student must be willing to practice and commit to schedule, but so too must the teacher. Does the school offer recitals? How much do I need to invest in books? What kind of instrument should I have to properly start practicing?
