Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically I get to know each new student by discussing what instrument and style of music they want to learn as well as any background experience they might have and how far they would like to go!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's degree in Musicology and World Music from the University of Colorado at Boulder 2008 as well as over a decades worth of performance experience on land as well as cruise ships in venues all around the globe.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I always give the first lesson for free in order to see if the student is a good match. After that I offer a discount for students who sign up for multiple lessons of ten or more.
How did you get started teaching?
As an undergrad at the University of Colorado I began teaching non-music majors in individual and group guitar lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
College students, community members, children and adults of all ages.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Early this year I began performing concerts online and found it a safe and pleasant live music experience.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
To make sure you feel comfortable with your teacher and that he or she is willing to let you half way in order to play the music you are excited about!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What style and songs they would like to learn as well as where they see themselves one year from now on the instrument of their choice.
