Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I start a new student, the first step is to ask them about their musical goals. I want to make sure that I'm personalizing their instruction for their unique wants and needs.
Secondly, I give the student materials that set him/her up for success. I carefully select books, exercises, and sheet music to fit the student's level and help him/her to begin to grow musically.
Next, I provide plenty of opportunities for students to share what they've learned with other listeners. I offer three formal recitals per year, as well as informal music classes for students who need a little extra support and less stress while playing for an audience.
As students progress, I consistently check-in with them so I know that they feel successful and challenged in their lessons.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Missed lessons can be made up at an alternate time once per month.
How did you get started teaching?
Music has always been a big part of my life because my mom was my piano teacher. She instilled in me a love of music and when it was time for me to choose a career, teaching music was a natural step.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages and I love the variety that teaching privately brings to my studio. I have taught classes for babies as well as adults who want to try something new and everything in-between. Music really is for everyone and we're never too young or too old to enjoy and benefit from playing or singing music!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask for a free trial lesson. This will give you a really good idea of the instructor's teaching style and how it feels to work with them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What kind of music do you like?
What do you want to accomplish in your lessons?
Do you like performing for others?
Do you have any special considerations your teacher should know about? (learning difficulties, or physical limitations that your teacher can help you work around)
