Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We begin with an introductory lessons that work as both an interview for student and teacher, as well as an assessment of which teaching methods would work best.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our instructor's program requires a minimum 8 years training to teach at one of our schools.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with children as young as 3 years to adults as young as their 60's. I've also worked with persons all over the talent spectrum as well as all kinds of physical capabilities. All students share the same important trait; the want to learn and improve.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, we participated in a .5 k event for Ralston House. While yes, it was a very short run, there were people from all walks participating. The event was made warmer when nuns were competing with police officers while a sprited woman completed the course with her walker. Everyone really came together to support the cause.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be aware of trend followers. The benefits of martial arts aren't in what bragging rights one can get or how many trophies one earns. If a teacher can help teach you how to navigate a challenge, then they are worth a look.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Am I really open to receiving instruction?
Am I willing to make real changes?
Do I understand that I might be faced with discomfort on some level to learn?
Am I willing to accept that there are somet things that I don't know and can't look up on the internet?
