Welcome to my Piano Studio!
I am looking forward to the time that we will be spending together. I graduated from the University of Denver Lamont School of Music with a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in Music in 1995 where I had a music scholarship to study the piano and the flute. I have had 20 years experience in teaching children and adults to play the piano in various areas around the Denver Metropolitan area. I was classically trained since I was about 6 years old and have competed in numerous competitions prior to my studies at DU. I was also principal flutist with Colorado Christian University’s Wind Ensemble. In addition, I spent the summer of 1991 as a camp counselor at Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan.
My studio specializes in teaching beginning to advanced piano students to read music, learn about music theory, and enjoy the art of classical music. I use a variety of methods that are specifically matched to the students personal needs. I also understand the importance of learning appropriate technique to prevent injuries. I believe that through private lessons the student is able to receive personalized attention that caters to each student's learning style and to their specific needs. Every child is different and struggles with different concepts at different times. Private lessons offer more flexibility for me to be able to personally communicate with the parents of my students. In addition, they are more personable and relaxing for the students. I spend quality one-on-one time with each student, which allows me to see where their strengths and weaknesses are and find ways to help them enjoy learning the piano while not feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. It is my goal to make lessons fun and I have an easy-going attitude with my students. I take children as young as age 5, so it is very important to make sure they have fun learning the piano and that they see it as a positive experience . . . and something they can have as a gift that will last them a lifetime.
My short-term goals for my students are to give them a great, solid foundation to build upon. We concentrate on proper technique and how to read music early-on so that they see it's not a hard thing to learn with a little practice and dedication. An additional long-term goal for my students is to find out what music means to them in their life. It is my hope and desire for the students that chose to study with me to truly enjoy playing and have a desire to share what they know with others. I strongly believe in making sure that my teaching style is a good fit for your child and family.
