About
I believe in being a blessing to all whom I encounter. Being a good human being is at the forefront of everything that I do. Treating others as myself is a core value of mine.
I encourage higher-level thinking skills and believe each student should grow into independent musicians so that no matter their place in life, they can always continue their music journey with or without me, and share what they've learned with others. I provide my students with the tools to grow into their own independent musical selves.
Playing the piano is literally doing a plethora of tasks at once. I thoroughly enjoy watching my students' brains process the new information that they learn with me, and connect that new information with the information that they already had. Watching them use prior knowledge to gain new knowledge is a great thrill as an educator.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For new students, I typically sit with parents and students, go over music goals for the students, and discuss expectations for the students, parents, and what can be expected of me as your teacher. We go over the Parent Agreement, Lesson Notes & Report forms, Complete the Medical Emergency form, and books needed to begin.
First lessons generally allow me an opportunity to assess learning styles, and teaching strategies that would reflect best practices for that particular student. I also ascertain which music method/approach would work best based on how that student responds to the new information presented. I look for what triggers the student's learning, and use that as a guide in customizing music learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A classically-trained musician, and certified music teacher; Jerusalem Walsh received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the UNCG School of Music in Greensboro, NC. She has taught private piano and voice over the last 27years.
Her teaching philosophy is to improve students from wherever they are; however they come, and that learning music should never be stressful. She’s worked with students of all ages in a wide variety of subjects; and thoroughly enjoys every teaching opportunity.
Most recently, Jerusalem served as the Middle School Choral Director at Parker Performing Arts School, in Parker, CO in 2022-23. While a Choral Teacher in NC, she also served as a mentor music teacher.
She has served as both worship leader, and Youth and Children’s Director at various churches, and as the choral and/or music director of several music programs and performances.
She is the owner/director of Walsh Music Academy; which offers both private and group instruction for a wide array of music classes. Jerusalem has been a guest performer on many occasions throughout her life, and has played the piano for 37 years. She is happily married with four children ages 26, 22, 17, and 15.

How did you get started teaching?
I have always been involved in music, and come from an extremely gifted musical family. We have done music and teaching for many many generations. I have always loved teaching others and sharing the gifts God has given me.
I started teaching piano in college, and began my work with K-12 students in my practicum experiences while earning my degree. Once I began my first career job as a Choral Music Educator, I continued to teach piano & voice privately as well as teach music through various church groups such as worship teams, choirs, kid's ministries, bands, and orchestras. I always looked for an opportunity to bless others with the knowledge I was blessed with.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages; from babies to adults in many kinds of classes/settings.
I have a high level of successful experience with special needs children & adults as well.Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have thoroughly enjoyed our recitals and seeing my students shine.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would recommend asking several teachers about the following specific questions:
How long have you been teaching, and do you hold a degree in music?
What strategies do you use to encourage practicing?
What is your policy on rescheduling/missing lessons?
What performance opportunities do you provide? Are there extra fees involved?
When is tuition due and what payment options are available?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about what their goals are in music. What do they hope to accomplish by taking lessons? Which musical path do they want to take? Can the teacher they plan to work with help them achieve these goals? Will they be forced to follow the music path the teacher sets, or their own music path (within reason)?
