Tickling The Ivories
About
I teach because I love to share the gift of music with others. I was headed to Julliard in High School. I decided I wanted to be a parent and teach. I didn't want the over whelming study of music to become a job and not my joy. I was taught the skills I need to teach but didn't continue my studies. So I lack a degree. I had certification but have not kept up with it. I have study much music on my own. I believe I can still give you the skills you need. I charge less then most teachers because of the lacking of a degree. I have taught for 13 years. Five previous to working a regular job for 26 years and now for another eight years since early retirement. I teach classical piano but do allow my students to play pop songs and try to help them with some improvisation skills. I try to teach them theory along with playing skills so later on they are prepared for high school music and college. They will be expected to practice the material assigned, but have a choice of a popular piece also. At first they will need to learn the study book to get the knowledge of reading music. I will expect the parent to help me in encouragement of practicing the material. So you will need to find a specific time for practice. I can teach the material but to progress it need practice for the body to learn the subconscious skills of movement.

I studied all my youth and was certified with the teacher guild. I have taught for 13 years at least. I have played for many years. I teach theory along with playing skills. I try to teah a little history of composers as we go. I like to teach some improvisation.

I have a flat fee. But if needed can adjust. I try to stay to a reasonable rate so all have a chance to learn. I teach because I love music not money. Of course every one needs money to live.
