A Gift To Last A Lifetime - JCaruk Music School
About
My name's Jacob Caruk. I'm one of the most passionate musicians currently alive on this planet. I am just someone who was born to do music. I see it as my responsibility to teach what I know and share what I have to offer with those who are interested. I am a working musician in need of extra income, having just moved to Philly from CT to connect with this community and pursue music. I am currently looking for students, primarily virtual, but I would be willing to travel to your residence for in-person lessons if you live (at the very least) within 10 miles of me (Headhouse Flats, Philly). Otherwise, I'm happy to do virtual lessons. As to why you should hire me, I'm very versatile. I'm a classically trained violinist, having learned the standard repertoire, played in orchestras throughout my youth...that was my first love with music. I studied violin performance for 3 years at UMASS Amherst, and it was there that I discovered jazz, and fell in love with the novelty of being a jazz violinist. And that's exactly what I did. I went off the traditional classical path I had been on to chase a more passionate musical path, driven by my musical instincts. I taught myself how to play guitar, piano, and to sing, while continuing to play the violin. I am just as passionate about guitar and piano as I am about violin. I'm a very capable guitarist at this point - capable of teaching rock, jazz, blues, and/or pop styles. I can teach improvisation. I can teach songwriting. I can teach music production. I can teach keyboard up to a certain point - really more geared to music producers, or songwriters who wish to accompany themselves while singing. As far as classical training goes, I'm fully equipped and able to teach a traditional classical approach on violin only. For guitar and piano/keyboards, I am able to teach jazz, blues, pop, rock, singer-songwriter - that type of approach.
The skills I offer as a teacher, particularly for violin and guitar, are unique, in that I have the skill level/training of a classical violinist, with music theory and sight-reading ability, but I also know what it is to be a songwriter, an improviser, and I am one of the few violinists who has ventured into other genres and found comfort in doing so - hip-hop, country/bluegrass, folk, pop, even rock/metal!
If you're interested in learning how to play violin outside of the classical setting as well, you won't find anyone more versed to teach that than myself. If you're looking for a traditional rigid classical approach, I can offer that, but there's many others capable of doing that as well who are much more qualified than me, and much more expensive. When it comes to improving musicianship, teaching how to play the violin (I teach viola as well), how to practice, inciting passion, taking an interest in my students...I'm as qualified as they come. If you're a songwriter who is looking for a teacher to help you realize and advance your craft, I'm the one you're looking for. If you're just someone who loves music and just wants to explore what that is on a violin/guitar/keyboard/piano, I'm perfectly suited for those types of students with my passion-based, interest-driven, unconventional approach. I hope to be able to help you realize your passion as a musician, so that you may express yourself as you long to.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
-Jacob Caruk
