About

My teaching approach:

I thoroughly enjoy working with all students regardless of skill level, age or goals. I make it as fun as possible and try my best to make the learning atmosphere comfortable. All students are unique and learn differently so I take it as a personal challenge to make you the best player you can be. My many years of teaching and performance experience gives me a huge range of teaching techniques . I also believe that the learning environment should always be kept fun and relaxed. Students learn more when they're enjoying themselves and smiling!

My influences are:

Too many too list, seriously! But, I love folk and fingerstyle and also rock and country. Oh, I could say Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhoades, Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Brad Paisley, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Eric Clapton, just to name a few.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio

Guitar Lessons with me take place in the following areas:

Charles' Music School of Centerbrook, CT located just 700' up from the Essex Steam Train entrance.

Guitar Techniques:

Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection, Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Performance, Improvisation

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

I always like to find out why they chose the guitar, what their previous music experience is, what styles of music they like and so on. I'll have you play a little bit so I can get an idea where you are on the instrument. I talk a little about myself, my experience and how I approach teaching and what we can do together in the teaching studio. After that, we get to work! LOL.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

It's going to be fun!! Ha ha. I always start off with tuning and then answering any questions from the previous lesson. After that, we dive back in and get busy. We might be reading music, improvising, working on form and technique or discussing music theory. You may bring in a cover tune that together we work on. I might be helping you bring your original music to life.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

My ideal student is somebody who loves music. I know everybody is going to be different and chooses to play guitar for many different reasons. I simply like working with people who love music. Oh yeah, and if you can practice a little bit, that makes me smile!
