William Parker Music
About
Hello. My name is Will and I have been teaching private music lessons for 7 years. I mostly travel to your home to teach you in an environment you are comfortable with. I also offer lessons online. My teaching strategy is simple, to teach you music using music you like while using a method that compliments your learning style. I have several years of experience teaching special needs individuals. In fact, my younger daughter has special needs, and I feel very comfortable working with these individuals. I also have taught students as young as 3 and as old as 70. I hold a bachelor's degree in vocal performance from the University of Valley Forge. I run my own YouTube channel, teach lessons through several lessons sites, and sell my compositions online. I recently wrote a 10 week music curriculum that I was able to use this summer at my local library, and I have gotten a great response every week. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first day I take the chance to see how much a student can handle and what they remember at the end. Th is allows me to see how the student learns and come up with a lesson plan. No two students are alike. Fro. there I have a regular flow to lessons; Homework, New Lesson, Technique, Review. This format has been very successful.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been learning music from age through to now. Along the way, I earned a bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My prices are very standard. I charge $30 for 30 minutes, $45 for 45 minutes, and $60 for 60 minutes. If the student is 5 and under,or has special needs, I offer a 15 minute time slot for $15. If I am traveling to you, there will be a $5 travel fee. If multiple students are at one location, you will only be charged the travel fee once provided their lessons are scheduled baxk to back. There is no travel fee for online students. In extreme cases, price could be negotiable. Contact me for more details.
How did you get started teaching?
A family friend noticed how well I could help everyone on our church's worship team understand music and work as a group. She pointed me in the direction of a local music store and I taught a few students there for a while. In 2014 my youngest daughter was born with a brain disorder. My current job gave me a lot of grief for needing a flexible schedule due to my child's health. I decided to teach lessons full time and work for myself. It was the best decision I ever made.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have had students as young as 3 as well as students in their 70s. My students range in beginner to advanced. I have also had students with autism, A.D.D., down syndrome, and sensory issues.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I wrote a program called Mini Musicians. This summer I have been able to teach the program at my local library. Attendance hit 50 children for lesson 9. The response has been amazing.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone you can understand. Many teachers have videos that give you a preview of how they teach and their mannerisms. Do your research and you will get the most out of lessons.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Mainly a student needs to ask themselves what they hope to accomplish, if they are willing to do the work, and why they want to take lessons in the first place.
