Gliss String Studio

Hi! I'm Liam, creator of GLISS String Studio. I'm a professional Violist who has performed internationally with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestra Victoria in Australia, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to name just a few. I have played chamber music with some of the most notable musicians of our time including members of the Tokyo, Edinburgh, and St. Lawrence String Quartets, Violinists Anthony Marwood & Movses Pogossian, Cellist Robert DeMaine, 1st Concert Master of the Berlin Philharmonic Noah Bendix Balgley, and Pulitzer Prize Winning Composer Caroline Shaw.

I hold a First Class Honours degree from the Royal College of Music, London, and an Artist Diploma from The Colburn School in Los Angeles where I was also a Teaching Fellow. I've been lucky enough to teach Violin and Viola at different levels throughout my career so far, including Beginner Students at The Colburn School, Intermediate Students at the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland, and Advanced students from Edinburgh Napier University and The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Every lesson you receive will be expertly balanced with creativity, and hard work. I love helping my students refine their musical voice through clear technical understanding and practice.

From absolute beginners to advanced students on the cusp of their university studies, I am able to cater to your, or your child's, specific needs and goals.

In my music teaching, I always enjoy helping my students solve problems. It's a great mental workout for both teacher and student! Every person is different and we all learn in different ways, so it's a great pleasure helping students find out what their learning style is and how that matures over time.

I love to watch my students grow more confident in each lesson. Learning a musical instrument can really help us find or reinforce our personality, and helping someone on that journey is extremely gratifying.

I have always enjoyed working with people, and there is always room to learn something new. Violin and Viola Lessons are a two-way street, and I am always open to learn as much from my students as they are from me!
