About this pro

My name is Mark Lavoie, I've taught violin for over 15 years. I work with students of all ages and levels, from beginning lessons for children and adults in both fiddle and classical music, to conservatory student lessons. I enjoy helping my students reach their highest potential in the violin, as well as have fun learning to play and perform with others.

My teaching methods include:

-- Repertoire work at all levels, from Suzuki to Paganini.

-- Intensive technique and musicality work. (Galamian, Perlman, and Zukerman methods.)

-- Ear training and music theory.

-- Performance, competition, audition, and recording preparation.

-- Studio recital performances (several times per year)

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I tailor lessons to each students' needs, and enjoy working with violinists of all ages. I also work with students preparing for orchestral auditions, as I was a 6-year student of Mr. Glenn Dicterow, the concertmaster of the N.Y. Philharmonic, and have worked as concertmaster with conductors such as Maestro Lorin Maazel, and Maestro James Conlon.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My rates are usually $110 per hour, but I'm offering a rate of $85 per hour for students starting in February.
