The most important thing to me with lessons is that they are fun, low pressure, and focus on nurturing a love of music. I focus on playing songs, student and teacher picked, more so than theory.
As students learn more, I like to have them pick out songs to play during lessons. I will often arrange versions of these songs for their level.
I love being able to work one on one with my students. It allows us the freedom to explore and grow as musicians, and also form meaningful bonds as people. It's satisfying getting to work with students of all ages and seeing how they approach lessons differently. Working with so many different students is always fresh because they always have different things to say, even if it's something I've taught many times to many students. And I love being in a teaching position where I can listen to student's input and suggestions and cater to them by allowing them to pick songs to play, aspects to focus on, or just moving on from something they aren't enjoying fully.
