Lila Reeser Upper Strings, Composition, And Theory Lessons
About
Please email me at [email protected] to talk about lessons!
I have been playing viola for over 13 years. I have returned to my home of the Bradenton area after having graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Theory and Composition. At Florida State, I studied viola with Dr. Pamela Ryan, and composition with Dr. Liliya Ugay and Dr. Stephen Montague. Prior to my studies at FSU, I studied viola for 6 years with ate Dr. Michael McClelland of the Sarasota Orchestra.
I have worked at the Sarasota Summer Music Camp for two years now, and loved seeing how quickly kids can progress! I want to see my students succeed in any way that I can help them improve. While I haven’t taught students yet, I would love to! I strive to bring a positive outlook of music to my students and can't wait to see how they progress!
I am looking for viola, beginning violin, or composition/theory students aged 8-18, and am planning on traveling to you!
I love seeing that lightbulb moment when students understand a concept. I've had many lightbulb moments, and I know just how rewarding they can be when you've been working very hard.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will provide a basic theory test to all students to see what they know and what we can focus on. I will ask string students to play for me what they've been working on and then assess from there. I will also ask the student how they prefer to learn, whether they like to hear how it should sound first, if they prefer to play together when learning something new, or another way.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have recently graduated at Florida State University with a Bachelor's of Music in Music Theory and Composition. During this time, I also received a Performance Certificate in viola. I pushed myself to be part of many ensembles and organizations during my time at FSU as well. Most notably, these include Univeristy Symphony Orchestra, Opera, New Music Ensemble, and Student Composers Incorporated.
