About me:
My name is Dona Piza. I was the guitarist who couldn’t play a song all the way through. I had trouble playing and singing at the same time. I could learn and play intricate solos but basically had no idea what key I was in or how to read the chords. I didn’t understand how music worked and in my mind, I made learning music harder than it is.
For years, I studied with teachers in New York City and Miami, until I found my teacher Ben Kaskel, who is a Berklee College of Music grad and the best teacher in Miami. I still take weekly lessons even after 20 years. I believe in lineage and the importance of always having a teacher. We’ve developed a method of learning incorporating the Berklee method that has made me into the guitar player I always wanted to be. Now, I mostly study jazz and whatever songs I’m trying to learn at the moment. I play in a few different bands around Miami. An all attorney/judge cover band with some friends and an R&B/Blues band with the legendary Mojo Ike Woods. Ben taught me music, Ike taught me stage presence and how to play. I love to teach others, kids and adults. Lessons should be fun and inspiring. I love seeing the transformation in my students.
