Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have an initial consultation to determine their budget, their objectives and whether private or group lessons are a better option to achieve their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 20 years of martial arts training. I earned my black belt in Tae Kwon Do, have 5 years being mentored in Filipino Martial Arts, and 5 years studying CTS ( Conflict and Threat Strategies). I am certified as a self-defense trainer from AWSDA ( American Women Self Defense Association). I have had training in various other martial arts and have assisted with, as well as presented, children's and women's self-defense seminars and classes.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$120.00 per month for ongoing group classes at our Port Richey location.
$80 per hour for private lessons
$280 when pkg. of 4 lessons are purchased.
$360 when pkg. of 6 lessons are purchased
$400 when pkg. of 8 lessons are purchased
How did you get started teaching?
I had always had an interest in teaching, starting with being a 5th-grade student teacher during my senior year of high school. During my years of martial arts training, I have worked with many lower belt students, both children and adults. As a board member and Vice President of Heroes In Action, I became very active in assisting with, as well as presenting seminars and teaching classes.
What types of students have you worked with?
In my martial arts training and assisting in seminars, I have worked with children and adults. I specialize in working with women and have presented women's self-defense seminars as well as teaching classes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher who will answer your questions. Even if it's a question about material that will come later, your question should still be answered.
Your teacher should be able to break down the techniques so you understand how they work.
It should also be fun!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I would want to know "what is the biggest fear" of the student pertaining to their personal safety?
What are their goals?
What physical limitations do they have?
What is their life like? Does the student have children, are they a business owner, do they work late at night, do they care for an elderly parent? The answer to questions like this lets the teacher know what potential situations they may be in and can tailor the training for the student.
