About

My name is Mr. Surroca. I've been playing piano and singing for almost 30 years. I received my Music Bachelor's Degree from Florida International University in 2011. I've taught in Miami and in Southwest Florida for almost 11-12 years. I have a passion for what I do and my goal is for young children, teens and adults to have a passion for music as well. I want them to become great performers that understand how to play, read, understand theory, and have a love for studying music history. If you register with me, you'll have the best piano/voice lessons ever because of my love for music.

I love my job because I get to work with all the age groups. Yes, I focus on K-12 grade level students, but I have taught young adults and adults as well. I enjoy what I do because having a passion for music has allowed me to live life in a special way. I never have felt obligated to teach. I felt a calling over my life to share my passion and I couldn't keep it to myself. I believe people have to share their talents and allow others to grow their talents as well.

    Frequently asked questions

I typically introduce the piano and voice as a new instrument. If you take piano lessons with me, I go over the structure of the piano/keyboard so that all my students understand where Middle C is and where most of the notes are at. I also incorporate a beginners version of music theory using music apps from my iPad. Then, I use beginner songs from many different method books. One of my favorite method books includes James Bastian and Jennifer Eklund's Piano Pronto. But I have used many method books across my many piano/voice lessons.

I have been playing piano and singing since I was a young child. I started playing piano and singing since I've been 6-7 years old. I have been playing and singing for almost 30 years. I received my music performance Bachelors Degree from Florida International University in 2011. I have taught piano and voice to K-12 aged children, teens, and young adults. I have also taught adults. My background encompasses classical, rock, jazz, and pop performance. I also enjoy teaching students repertoire that they personally enjoy. I do have my methods of teaching, but I always aim to give any student a well rounded instruction of how to advance in their technique as a pianist, technique as a vocal student, become versatile as a musician and gain a passion for all aspects of music performance.
I have two methods of charging lessons to students: 30 minute lessons or 60 minute lessons. To learn more about my pricing system, please contact me now!
I began teaching piano/voice when I was in college. I always wanted to teach privately, but I still became a well-rounded musician in many areas of music and taught in private and charter schools. I currently hold my professional license to teach K-12 in schools in Florida, but I do have my own business outside of school called "MusiKidz Piano Studio". I still continue teaching in the SW area of Florida. Currently, I am part of the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
I work with beginner, intermediate, advanced & professional performers.
I would shop around for a teacher that has a passion for what they currently teach. If they love to teach children and have patience to teach well and slowly, that teacher will go far with a student looking to become a great musician.
Students should ask their teachers what styles of music they enjoy. Many pianists and singers usually go to school to learn a classically based system, but a great teacher is a teacher that knows how to go beyond just one style. I consider myself a classical pianist, but took many lessons when discovering jazz, pop, and blues. A teacher that goes outside of the normal classical style could possibly be your next fun and exciting teacher. Also, if a teacher has a sense of humor and loves to make kids laugh, every student will have a strong connection with their teacher. Lessons shouldn’t be boring. Lessons should be fun and interactive. Use the iPads for theory, notes, beats, and rhythm.
