Joel is very professional, patient and willing. I could notice that he loves teaching since the first class. Learning with him how to play an instrument is fun and very enjoyable, because he knows how to make it easier. His classes are not boring at all! I would highly recommend his lessons to anyone who wants to learn how to play a piano!

Joel is an incredible teacher. He doesn't just teach you how to do something and then send you on your way he helps you understand the music theory and why things are the way they are. This makes you more of a well-rounded musician. He's turned songwriting lessons into more than just words on a paper. He's given me the fundamental building blocks to music that'll improve the way I write and understand music. I 10/10 recommend him as an instructor and I promise you will not regret taking lessons from him. He is extremely knowledgeable in various aspects of music and you will thoroughly enjoy learning all he has to teach you!

When I started lessons with Joel, I had very limited knowledge on music. Although I loved music and was interested in learning to play the piano, I had always felt intimidated by all the things I did not know. But, Joel always kept it simple and fun until I was ready to advance. That's what makes Joel a fantastic teacher - his patience and genuine joy in sharing how approachable and malleable music can be, no matter where you are starting from. Definitely take a class with him, he is a fantastic guy and a joy to learn with!

Working with Joel has truly been a great experience. Every class is really fun, and after each one, I feel like I have learned something new. It is great to able to choose the song I will learn next and it feels like the lessons are tailored to me. Joel is very proficient with guitar in many different genres and because of this, I have been able to learn music across multiple genres, and everything from simple chord progressions to improvisation. I like being able to get right into a song, not having to worry immediately about theory. It is also great to be able to learn about not just guitar, but also bass and music production. Joel is very proficient in almost every music production software, which makes learning about how to produce music in my personal computer very easy.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I always teach my students the music they already love. There's no need to learn classical theory or scales if you want to play rock or jazz.  I want my students to leave each lesson knowing how to play a new song. Then, in a later class, we can deconstruct it and analyze it to learn from it.  But let's play first!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Graduate of Berklee College of Music in 1993 and been a professional musician, composer, proucer and engineer for 25 years.
