Jacob Spangler Music
About
Hi there! I have over ten years of experience teaching private guitar lessons for people from all age groups and experience levels. I believe its never too early -or too late- to start practicing and learning something new! Music is a great source of joy, and should never become a burden. My teaching style is based around that idea -learn to play something that you’re familiar with, learn everything you can about it, learn the technique to play it, and then be courageous enough to take that knowledge and learn something new!
I hold a BM from Stetson University with a focus in Classical Guitar Performance. At Stetson I studied music theory, aural training, and sight-singing for two years, after which I began tutoring in these areas. I also studied music composition at Jacksonville University for two years under Dr. Jianjun He, and for one year at Stetson University under Dr. Manuel de Murga.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for any inquiries. If you’re having trouble -I am happy to help!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I get an idea of the student's goals and discuss expectations of both of us. This is either done in a conversation with parents or with the student. Short, attainable goals are set for each week, and progress is kept in my personal notes as well as the student's notebook. Regardless of the playing level when starting out, this is the typical process when working with a new student of mine.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Music, with a major in Classical Guitar Performance.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching guitar when I was about 13 years old. I had a neighbor who heard me playing one day and then asked me to come and teach him. I taught private lessons all through high school and college as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
The majority of my students have been beginners. I've had several students who began to take playing much more seriously, and I've had advanced students who've come to me just for help with musical interpretation.
