Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to do a quick meet and greet to introduce students to my policy. If they decide I am a good fit for them, I offer a short trial lesson to see if they are a good fit for the studio. If everything works out we move forward with piano lessons!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Music Education and I am certified in the state of Florida to teach music in grades K-12. I have 6 years of classroom teaching experience and over 11 years of experience teaching piano privately.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes! Tuition is $105/month for a 30 minute lesson. Tuition is annualized. For the upcoming school year, 30 lessons will be offered from September-May and the tuition is divided by 9 months coming out to $105/month. During the summer months (June, July, and August), lessons are at an individual rate of $32/ half hour lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching a few lessons here and there at the encouragement of my own private teacher when I was in high school. But I didn't begin teaching seriously until college and I have been teaching piano ever since!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students age 4-adult! Just about every stage of life and every learning style!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Our last winter recital was probably one of my favorite recitals so far. And, we have had some wonderful recitals in the studio over the past few years! Because of COVID-19, multiple recitals where offered to keep the groups small and I was able to highlight each student since we had more time! Families loved it and I loved being able to make the recital just a little more special for each student!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Hire someone that is trained and has the experience! You never know if your child will want to take piano to a more professional level. I've met families before who didn't think investing in a accomplished teacher was important, but their child ended up loving piano! So by the time they got their student in with a good teacher to take them to the next level, the teacher had to spend years reteaching good technique and musicianship that were unintentionally taught by an inexperienced or untrained teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Am I willing to practice?
Can I commit to at least a year of lessons?
