About this pro

The students needs always comes first. I have an AA music degree. I taught over one thousand students with my 10 year tenure at the Music Shack. I am a certified teacher in Arizona. I have 3000 performances, including the better part of 5 years on cruise ships. Please see education and training below. It's quite extensive.

I have students that have gone on to become professionals. Trent Little is now a performer at "Howl at the Moon". They fly him all over the country to perform in their venue's. Bailey Callahan now a Nashville recording artist.

I love passing the the torch and giving the student information that will last a lifetime. I am a born showman and teaching gives me the opportunty to not only teach but to entertain.

Jeff Adkins is perhaps the best guitar instructor in the Orlando area. Not only is he an incredibly talented guitarist and a motivating instructor, but he is down-to-earth, smart, funny and just plain fun to be around.

I took lessons from Jeff over 10 years ago. He is an excellent teacher and is sensitive to your wants and needs as a guitar player. He was able to broaden my understanding of the guitar and its capabilities. Jeff also gave me opportunities to perform live at open mikes and local gigs. Even though I had played guitar before I took lessons from Jeff, I became a much better player after only a few months. Hire Jeff. You won't be disappointed.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

The 1st lesson is basically a crash course in what it will take to become a guitarist, bassist, or pianist. Covering technique, practise, goals and any song you want to learn. Then let the fun begin. You will walk away with all you need to know to accomplish everything. Youngsters typically start in book 1. Other students work on songs they want to learn.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have 4 decades of performing some three thousand gigs, teaching music for 30 years with over one thousand students taught. I teach acoustic guitar, electric guitar, slide guitar, bass, keyboards, song writing, and theory.

I have an AA degree in music. I studied jazz guitar and voice.

My most recent accomplishment is a restaurant duo, Adkins & Anderson featuring Julie Kane on vocals. She was an in-demand performer in Seattle, Washington fronting the Racer band and working with former members of the band Heart.

For the past 10 years . I have backed some of the best impersonators in the USA. Tribute artist Elvis, Roy Orbison,Neil Diamond, Fats Domino, Johnny Cash,Willie Nelson,John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Stevie Nicks,Frankie Valli,  Blues Brothers, Jimmy Buffet, Ricky Nelson, Janis Joplin, and the Doors.

I’ve had students that exclusively work on one artist only. Taylor Swift, Panic at the Disco, Blink 182, Green Day, AC/DC, Metallica, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater, Jimi Hendrix, Santana.

I have dabbled in every era of top 40 music from the 50’s to now. Genres include oldies, classic rock, folk, jazz fusion, 80’s MTV, grunge, new country, classic country, punk, hard rock, blues and more.

Artist like Chuck Berry, TheBeatles, Pink Floyd, Patsy Cline, Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Who, The Guess Who, Elton John, Heart, Pat Benatar, Bad Company, Little River Band, Doobie Bro’s, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Gary Moore, Van Halen, The Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Prince, INXS, The Eagles, Celene Dion, Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand, Carrie Underwood, Marilyn Manson, Avenged Sevenfold, Imagine Dragons, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, 90s country artists, new millennium artist. Yes I really have dabbled in everything.

I even teach 1st level classical guitar and I was a bassist too. I taught piano keyboards at the Music Shack. I also sing and have been in an acappella choir. I have also performed in a Polynesian show singing and playing guitar. I have played in churches, restaurants, VFW’s, American Legions, bars, biker festivals, Europe and I spent the better part of 5 years on cruise ships.

How did you get started teaching?

I first started teaching (1988) from my home and then I started teaching in the music store Music Shack (1993).

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with both female and male students. 6 years old to 70 years young.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I performed for a senior group at the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Tucson, AZ. I played ukulele, guitar and sang.

I got hired by a trio called Desert Treasure and learned 40 cover songs in 3 weeks.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I am the mentor you have been looking for. Stop and don't look anymore until you have taken a lesson from me. Then if you are not satified by all means keep looking. I am fun, creative and get along with everyone.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What are their accomplishments. Are they a professional performer and where have they played. Do my needs come first. Can the teacher play the styles of music I am interested in.
