About

Welcome to Jay’s Music Academy (JMA)

At JMA, we specialize in child-centered music enrichment programs that support physical, social, and emotional development through the power of music. Our lessons are designed to be age-appropriate, engaging, and fun, with offerings in Piano, Guitar, Violin, and Voice.

We proudly offer beginner Piano and Guitar lessons in Spanish, making music education accessible to more families in our community.

Since 2021, we’ve been nurturing musical growth in Preschoolers, Elementary, and Middle School students. While we do welcome adult learners, our primary focus is on elementary music education, where we believe the foundation for lifelong musical enjoyment begins.

Our Child-First Music Approach: We teach through games, singing, and creative activities like composing, improvising, and performing. Each lesson is tailored to your child’s musical interests and learning style, helping them stay motivated and excited to practice.

Students will build a strong foundation in music theory, including chords, finger numbers, note names, tempo, and changing meters. Our curriculum includes sight-reading, transposition, composition, and more—all designed to be developmentally appropriate and inspiring.

Why Music Matters: Research shows that music education enhances cognitive development, academic performance, and social-emotional skills. At JMA, we’re passionate about these benefits and believe that parent engagement is key to a child’s success in music.

We’re more than just a music school—we’re a vibrant community that grows with your child.

To get started, we invite you to schedule a Meet & Greet Academy Tour and Mini Lesson Experience. This introductory session allows families to explore our academy, meet our instructors, and experience our unique teaching approach firsthand.

I have been doing music with Mr. Lens for the past four years and he has inspired me while helping me see my voice as an instrument. He taught me confidence in myself and the gift that I have. His focus will be on you, the student, and will help you achieve your musical goals--whether that is with singing or piano.

PARENT COMMITMENT & SUPPORT Please understand that when committing to lessons, Jay's Music Academy is reserving a specific day/time that cannot be filled by other customers/students. Please also understand that learning an instrument takes commitment and parent support. We discuss the goal for taking music Lessons with each children and their parents which help us assess how the parents can support the child music learning journey. The goal may change over time, but this gives us a starting point.

WHY WE DO NOT OFFER MONTH-TO-MONTH LESSONS? Learning an instrument takes commitment. Parents should discuss the goal of taking music Lessons with their children. The goal may change over time, but this gives the parent a starting point on how much to invest in the child’s music education. Month-to-month lessons do not offer long-term value to students and do not encourage long-term commitment to learning music. JMA offers a 4-week trial program to parents who are interested in our program.

Mr. Jay was introduced to teaching in his early college years at Pace University in New York City; He started as a substitute teacher in 2006 and his passion for teaching grew from there. He has experience teaching Music in both elementary and middle schools as well as private and studio settings.

    At JMA we primarily teach preschoolers, elementary and middle schoolers (Ages 2-13);

We believe that Music is an important component of a well-rounded education. It complements your child’s academic studies and promotes healthy development. In addition, if you observe that your child is highly interested in music and singing, it is a sign of a passion that needs to be nurtured.

One of the most rewarding moments we experience each week is watching our students grow and thrive in their musical journey. Whether it's a young pianist mastering their first song or a shy vocalist finding their voice, these small victories bring us immense joy. Seeing their confidence build and their passion deepen reminds us why we do what we do. It’s not just about teaching music—it’s about celebrating progress, creativity, and the joy of learning.

At Jay’s Music Academy (JMA), we encourage parents to support their child’s creativity by choosing a teacher who can truly partner with them in nurturing it. That’s the heart of our Child-First Music Approach. We take time to learn about each child’s musical interests, learning style, and personality. Then, we thoughtfully incorporate those elements into a personalized lesson plan. Children are naturally inclined to learn music—it’s all about making it relevant, engaging, and joyful for them. Our goal is to create a positive, socially and emotionally enriching experience through music. We believe that when children feel seen and supported, they thrive—not just musically, but personally.

At Jay’s Music Academy, we encourage parents to reflect on their child’s interests and learning style before starting lessons. Here are some helpful questions to consider:

    ● Why is your child interested in learning this instrument? What excites them about it?

    ● Have you noticed your child engaging with music naturally—singing, dancing, or experimenting with sounds?

    ● What style of music does your child enjoy most? Are they open to exploring different genres or focused on one in particular?

    ● Is your child curious and motivated to learn, or do they need more encouragement? Understanding their mindset helps tailor the approach. How long are you hoping to invest in music lessons? Are you looking for a short-term experience or a long-term journey?

    ● Are you prepared to support your child’s musical growth? This includes encouraging regular/organic practice (3–5 times a week), creating a distraction-free space, and staying engaged by asking about their progress and sharing feedback with their teacher.

Music learning is most successful when it’s a collaborative effort between student, teacher, and parent. The more you understand your child’s interests and needs, the better we can help them thrive.
