About

I teach both violin and piano, both instruments that I am passionate about. I have been fortunate to find students wherever life has led me, leading to stints teaching in Missouri, Mexico, India, and now Georgia. I have a bachelor's degree in Music Education (College of Wooster, OH) and also a Master's degree in Music Education (Washington U, St. Louis, MO). I've taught both in the public school system and also in my own home studio. At present I am concentrating on building up the home studio and SOO enjoy working with the students. I have a baby grand piano which allows piano students to experience the full benefits of that weekly.

I love teaching a diverse set of students. Everyone is so unique, that working with each one is an opportunity to find the motivation that best suits each one.

Ms. Janet is an amazing teacher. We started when my kids were 6 and 8 yrs and we’ve been working with her for 6 yrs and still going. My kids still enjoy every class we have with her.

As an older student tackling a challenging instrument, Ive had a great experience working with Janet. I took lessons from a couple of other teachers before I started with her, and from the very first lesson I could tell a big difference in my playing. You cant beat her experience as a teacher. If Im having trouble with a technique or a concept, she always has a new way to help present it. Even on days when Ive had less time to practice than I would want, she is always able to help me progress. I walk away from each lesson feeling encouraged and excited about playing.

I have worked with students of varying experience, from beginner to advanced. Since I have taught in Mexico and India where there are a lot of expats as well as nationals, this has allowed me to work with a wide range of students.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Find a teacher who's style fits yours. One who gives you the right mix of motivation and guidance.
