Joanie's Musical World
About
Hello! My name is Joanie Fitzgerald. I have been teaching music for 23 years, since graduating from Emmanuel College. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance but have also taught piano since 2000. I take pride in equipping my students in the skills to make them independent learners, with me there to guide them. I always say that any musician is only as strong as their weakest link so it’s important to develop their music skills aurally, visually and also through touch. Even though I teach my students to read music, they need to also develop a good ear to use when needed. I also believe that theory goes hand in hand with playing so I stress the importance of breaking down the information so that you understand how to apply the theory. I cannot say how important it is to practice regularly outside the lesson. I had a teacher say years ago,”Practice makes progress”. You put in 10% effort…. you get out 10%. I stand by that statement . If we want to go far with something, we put a lot of effort into it. I have no age limit when it comes to teaching mature aged adults but I do ask that the minimum age would be 6 years old. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I look forward to hearing from you!
